![]() THE SONIC SELF July 15, 2008 - August 30, 2008 Opening Reception: From July 15th until August 30th, 2008, the Sonic Self is bringing together local and international sound artists, musicians, video/multimedia and performance artists to facilitate the exchange and development of pioneering ideas, innovative skills and practices in contemporary Sound Art discipline. The Sonic Self’ - a sound-art related exhibition and associated music events - aim at developing an open and direct audio-visual dialog in order to expose significant similarities and differences in the growing confluence of audio and visual experiences in the contemporary complex and diverse global culture. The exhibition and associated events, curated by Jolanta Gora-Wita, Koshek Swaminathan, Anna Frants, Koan Jeff Baysa, Yaro, guest curator Maciej Zygmunt Czarkowski, will present works by selected pioneering artists, who use sound as their primal medium, encompassing a spoken word, field recordings, computer generated sound, video projection, interactive art, sound performance, live music and DJ sampling. The curators of the Sonic Self will next bring this unique international sound project to Chennai, India, in winter of 2009, and to St. Petersburg, Russia in spring of 2009. The Sonic Self project, initiated in the spring of 2003 by Jolanta Gora-Wita, will be presented for the second time this summer at the Chelsea Art Museum, NYC.
